Callaghan Country is an ideal location for any film or photography shoot requiring a mountainous backdrop or backcountry theme.

Our tenure area spans more than 3,500 hectares of untouched wilderness, with sub-alpine meadows, old-growth forests, alpine lakes, ponds, creeks, waterfalls, talus slopes, glaciers, and rugged mountain peaks.

Without a doubt, Callaghan Country is the most pristine, untracked, and accessible natural area in the Whistler region.

Located in a small sub-alpine valley, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, is Callaghan Lodge – Whistler’s only full-service backcountry lodge.

Plan an Event Form

Callaghan Lodge makes an ideal base for commercial shoots. There are no roads to the Lodge, ensuring that production can proceed without disruption.

The 5,000 square foot lodge is three stories tall, with a gear drying room, washroom, shower, dining room and kitchen on the first floor; a large lounge, two superior bedrooms and a deluxe suite on the second floor, 5 smaller bedrooms (3 with queen beds, 2 with twin beds), a sitting room and a shared bathroom and shower on the third floor.

There are three pull-out couches: one in the sitting room on the third floor, one in the living room of the Solitude suite and a third in the loft of the suite. The lodge can easily accommodate up to 24 people in beds (15 singles), however there is plenty of floor space available should additional sleeping capacity be needed.

Lodge Amenities
The Lodge is heated with a propane furnace and lit with propane lamps. Limited electricity is supplied by a 30kw electrical generator. For incremental power requirements, larger generators can be leased – please ask us for details. Water is pumped directly from a nearby lake, providing running water and hot showers for all.

In the winter, access is via helicopter, snow coach, snowmobile or ski-in. In the summer, primary access is via helicopter. 4x4 vehicles can drive to within 4.5km of the Lodge, and crews can hike in from there. Equipment can be transported in via track vehicle or helicopter.

Helicopter transit takes between 12 - 15 minutes in the winter, and as little as 6 minutes in the summer (the summer staging area is much closer to the Lodge). In the winter, snow coach access takes about an hour (one way, weather depending) and snowmobile access takes about 45 minutes (one way). Gear transport with the snowcat access taking about 2 hours.
